SBHOA Membership
Southend Beach Hut Owners Association - SBHOA was set up in November 2001 - it now has around 390 paid-up member huts. The SBHOA has a proper constitution and an elected Committee. Since the Inaugural Meeting there have been regular committee, annual general and special meetings.
In short the Association has made excellent progress in a relatively short space of time, thanks to the efforts and support of the members & Committee.
We hope that as a fellow hut-owner you will want to be a part of this. We all share a common interest and should all be looking to help each other to improve things for everyone. Membership is only £20 per hut for 3 years (to cover printing, postage & other running expenses). We would very much like the opportunity to welcome you to the Association and to be able to count on your support in our efforts to improve things.
Every member counts & it is important that the membership covers as many of the 490 or so huts as possible. The more members we have, the greater will be the SBHOA's say & influence in all matters concerning the common interest of Hut Owners. Please don't delay. Send in your application form soon. Members Newsletters
Beach Hutter quarterly newsletters are sent out to update members on activities & progress.
Security Services
We are very active in the area of hut security, and liaise closely with the Police & Foreshore Department in trying to combat hut vandalism & graffiti.
We have raised public awareness of the problems & thanks to our high public profile, arrests have been made of persons damaging huts.
All members can request a security sign for their hut with contact details for our security officer.
Hut Insurance
We have an arrangement with a beach hut insurance company called “Love Your Hut” who provide excellent cover at favourable rates for SBHOA members. Depending on how much a hut is insured for, the saving on your insurance premium can be several times the cost of your SBHOA membership fee!
Council Representation
We were also active in negotiating with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council regarding all beach hut related matters, and in trying to get a fair deal for Hut owners.
This is especially important right now as all hut leases expire at the end of 2014. We have a good working relationship with the Property Department of the Council, who deal with beach huts, and they now prefer to deal with our Association on important matters rather than with individual hut owners.
News Updates
The association has contact with various council departments to gather information affecting hut owners.
We're currently working on objecting to the councils plans to change the seafront flood defences and exploring alternate options
